Volunteers recently exchanged experiences near Koper

The European Volunteer Service (EVS) volunteers in the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and its EUSA Institute recently participated in training for EVS and ESC volunteers currently doing their service in Slovenia. The seminar took place in Debeli Rtic, near the city of Koper, which will host the Beach Volley and Waterpolo EUC in 2019 and the Floorball WOC in 2020.

In EVS mobility programme, financed by the EU’s Erasmus+ programme, the participants come from Europe and program countries. In the case of this training, the volunteers were from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, the Netherlands, Serbia, Spain, Poland, Portugal and Turkey.

For 5 days, the 25 volunteers hosted by 12 organizations in Slovenia had a chance to meet each other. They got their questions answered about their European Voluntary Service (EVS) and European Solidarity Corps (ESC) projects and learned more about the Erasmus+ and other EU programs.

The volunteers exchanged their first impressions of the country, culture, language, as well as work and other experiences. The training was organized by the national Youth Agency in Slovenia Movit and was very interactive.

The trainers covered the topics in a flexible and an enthusiastic atmosphere. The volunteers presented and explained the current projects they are working on, this helped them to get a bigger image if they needed help (they can always seek each other).

Next call for long-term ESC possibility in EUSA (term September 2019-August 2020) will be announced in the beginning of 2019. Short-term volunteering opportunities for the 2019 European Universities Championships will be opened this December.

As Koper will host the Beach Volley and Waterpolo EUC in 2019 and the Floorball WOC in 2020, a special call for volunteers could be expected at that time.
